Summary
GrowthJar is a pocket money learning app for families. It helps children understand earning, saving, and delayed gratification by tracking chores, deposits, and "planted" coins that grow over time.
GrowthJar is an educational tracker. It is not a bank, does not hold money, does not transfer money, and does not provide financial services.
GrowthJar is designed to be private by default:
- No accounts
- No advertising
- No analytics
- No tracking
- No third-party SDKs
- No internet connection required (a connection is only used if you choose to make the optional Family Unlock purchase, which is processed entirely by Apple)
- No data sent to GrowthJar or to any third party
All GrowthJar app data is stored locally on the device.
Information stored in the app
GrowthJar stores only the information that a parent or child enters into the app:
- Parent name or nickname
- Child names or nicknames
- Child emoji avatars
- Job names, emoji, and reward amounts
- Money source labels, such as Gift, Birthday, or Allowance
- Transaction amounts and transaction history
- Deposit receipt photos, if a deposit photo is added
- Parent settings, such as growth rate, lockup period, sound preference, onboarding state, and active child selection
- Parent PIN hash and salt
The parent PIN itself is never stored. GrowthJar stores only a salted cryptographic hash used to check the PIN on the device.
App Store privacy label
GrowthJar does not collect data as Apple defines collection for App Store privacy labels, because the app does not transmit data off the device to the developer or to any third party.
Information entered into GrowthJar is processed and stored locally on the device so the app can provide its core pocket money tracking features.
Photos and camera
GrowthJar may ask to use the camera when a child or parent starts the deposit flow. The photo is used as a local receipt for coins or notes being added to the app.
Deposit photos are:
- Stored locally on the device
- Compressed before storage
- Never uploaded
- Never shared
- Never used for analytics, recognition, advertising, or tracking
- Deleted when the associated transaction is deleted, when the child profile is deleted, or when the app is uninstalled
If camera permission is declined, the camera-based deposit flow will not be available. Other GrowthJar features, such as jobs, approvals, child profiles, growth settings, and ledger history, can still be used.
Data storage and backups
GrowthJar stores app data locally using Apple's SwiftData framework. GrowthJar does not provide its own server, account system, remote database, cloud sync, analytics service, or backup service.
Depending on the user's iOS backup settings, Apple device backups or iCloud backups may include GrowthJar app data. Those backups are controlled by the user and Apple, not by GrowthJar.
Data we do not collect or access
GrowthJar does not collect, transmit, or have access to:
- Email addresses, unless you choose to contact support outside the app
- Phone numbers
- Physical addresses
- Advertising identifiers
- Device identifiers
- IP addresses
- Location data
- Contacts
- Browsing history
- Analytics or usage metrics
- Crash reports sent to GrowthJar
- Data from other apps
GrowthJar does not use App Tracking Transparency because it does not track users.
Third-party services
GrowthJar uses no third-party services, SDKs, frameworks, analytics tools, advertising networks, or crash reporting tools.
The app is built with Apple's native frameworks, including SwiftUI, SwiftData, LocalAuthentication, AVFoundation, and PhotosUI.
No data is shared with third parties.
This website
This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics, includes no third-party code, and makes no requests to any server other than the one that serves these pages. There is nothing to consent to, which is why there is no cookie banner.
Parental controls
GrowthJar is designed for supervised family use.
Parent-facing features are protected by a parental gate. The parent area includes approval controls, child profile management, job setup, growth settings, source management, and the full ledger.
The parental gate uses:
- Face ID or Touch ID, when available
- A randomly generated maths challenge fallback
- A parent PIN fallback after onboarding
- A temporary lockout after repeated failed attempts
Every child-initiated transaction starts as pending and requires parent approval before it affects the child's balance.
Children's privacy
GrowthJar is designed for children and is intended for the Kids category on the App Store.
GrowthJar does not knowingly collect personal information from children online. The app does not transmit children's information off the device. It does not include advertising, analytics, social features, public profiles, user-generated content sharing, messaging, or external links on child-facing screens.
Parents control the information entered into the app and can delete child profiles and transaction history from within the parent area.
Deleting data
Parents can delete GrowthJar data in these ways:
- Delete a child profile to remove that child's name, avatar, transactions, and receipt photos
- Delete individual transactions from the ledger
- Delete jobs and money sources from the parent area
- Uninstall GrowthJar to remove app data from the device
GrowthJar has no account deletion process because GrowthJar has no accounts.
